Smith Global has an extensive experience solving real-world problems with a proven record for innovative designs. Our designs have won awards for innovation, safety & productivity.

Smith Global staff have been responsible for the design of all products manufactured by J. Smith & Sons such as Oversize mining trailers, “Hydrapede” self-powered mining trailers, Car carriers (including the innovative “Flatpack” range), Heavy-haulage Lowloaders & Supertilts and a large range of sugar & sugarcane transport equipment.

 

In addition to the Smith & Sons range, Smith Global has been involved in the development of many other innovative products.

Using either face-to-face discussions or on-line boardroom technologies such as Team-viewer we are able to rapidly communicate ideas with our clients and efficiently refine concepts towards the optimum solution.

Smith Global Pty Ltd uses Solidworks 3D CAD modelling software for designing and developing products and concepts. 3D CAD modelling allows for the rapid and accurate development of tailor-made design solutions

Hydraulic, Pneumatic & DC electronic control systems design

Smith Global has significant experience in the design of control systems using Hydraulic, Pneumatic & DC electrical components. Our systems designs include knowledge of both mobile and industrial valves and components and are designed to be cost effective, safe and efficient.

We have created designs for hydraulic systems for a wide variety of equipment such as self-powered hydraulic-drive trailers, winch and planetary gearbox drive systems, side-tipping equipment with sequential control, hydraulic vehicle-suspension systems and control of various machinery with inter-locking requirements. We have experience in both fixed & proportional control and have excellent skills in system fault diagnosis & efficiency improvement recommendations.

Our pneumatics experience includes industrial pneumatic control of machinery and also pneumatic braking systems in transport applications.

Our electronic experience includes design of systems using DC components for logic control. We also have experience in the use of CAN-bus control systems & Radio remote controls. For example, the “Hydrapede” powered dolly was completely controlled via CAN-bus system. This included control of the engine & transmission using J1939 protocols & all other aspects via a custom designed CAN-Open control program. All Smith car carriers are controlled via Radio remote control, as are many other Smith products.

We are able to work with a variety of different quality component suppliers such as Rexroth, Parker, Festo, IFM, Berendsen, & Custom Fluid-power to develop the optimum control system for the clients application.

Drafting to full workshop drawings and comprehensive Bills-of-Materials

Using Solidworks, we can create comprehensive drawing packs with detailed Bills of materials. The drawing packs include nested drawing lists and all parts are identified with unique part numbers. Processing drawing lists for individual manufacturing processes such as drill, press, notch, guillotine etc. can be automatically generated to ensure efficient manufacturing processes. The comprehensive bills of materials ensure accuracy and efficiency in purchasing and manufacture. DXF shapes etc. can be automatically generated to utilise modern manufacturing processes such as plasma, laser & water-jet cutting.

Budget estimates for manufacture

Through our experience with J. Smith & Sons and with a network of subcontractors in the AEIMnet we are able to provide budget estimates for the manufacture of equipment designed either by Smith Global or by others.
