Kerren Smith
– Managing Director
Kerren was the Managing Director of J. Smith & Sons from 1993 and has also been the Managing Director of Smith Global Pty Ltd since 2007. After taking the reins of production at J. Smith & Sons in 1975, Kerren played a pivotal role in securing and maintaining new and existing markets in the very volatile on- and off-road transport industry. He brings over 40 years of industry experience to the company. In addition to his role in his family’s companies, Kerren is also Director of the Cooloola Regional Development Board and is serving on the Queensland Cricket Board after his post as President of Queensland Junior Cricket.
Kerren is well respected in the Transport, Construction & Engineering, and Mining Industries internationally.

Kevin McDonnell, CPEng, MIEAust, RPEQ (Mechanical and Structural)
- General Manager, Engineering.
Kevin McDonnell is the General Manager of Smith Global Pty Ltd. Kevin is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland and has been a memebr of the Institution of Engineers Australia since 1993.
Kevin has been responsible for the development of some of the world’s most advanced highway and mining equipment. Kevin also introduced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to Smiths, which is undertaken for companies around the world, assessing designs and equipment for potential improvements, as well as developing cost-saving innovations for developing countries.

Peter Birch
– Financial Controller
Peter joined Smith Global in 2008. Peter brings over 30 years of experience and knowledge in finance to the company. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is a CPA. Prior to joining us at Smiths, Peter has worked in senior finance roles in a diverse range of industries including direct marketing, wholesale distribution, travel & freight.

Aaron Lindstrom
Design Engineer
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)
Aaron undertook his thesis at J. Smith & Sons in his final year of study in 2005. His aptitude for design secured him a full-time position in the Engineering Department where he has been responsible for the design for products such as the Smith FLATPACK ® 8 & 11 Car Carriers. Aaron also focuses on LEAN management principles, fostering a culture of continuous improvement by minimising waste of labour & materials.
Nick Dodt
Graduate Design Engineer
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Materials)
Nick began working for Smith Global as a graduate engineer in early 2014. Nick had previously worked each Christmas vacation from 2010-2012 in the Smith engineering office and had impressed with his design and analytical skills, including contributions to the design of a vehicle securing device which was subsequently the subject of a patent application. Nick now utilises his design and programming skills on Smith Global projects including 3D CAD and also numerical modelling of vehicle performance.
Christine Marquis
Spare parts, Purchasing management and Technical Documentation.
Christine joined the Smith team in 2006 and has excelled in various roles relating to accounts and Sharepoint administration as well as steel and component purchasing. From 2010, Christine successfully controlled the first remotely operated Smith office.
Christine now provides bespoke spare-parts support for Smith & Sons equipment as well as purchasing support for manufacturing projects that are managed by Smith Global on their clients behalf.
Christine also supports the consultancy and marketing requirements of the Smith Global and has skills in supporting the creation of technical documents such as Equipment manuals, Safe Operating procedures, Risk assessments, etc.
